Marie Sharp built a Belize hot sauce name by replacing the vinegar in the bottle with carrots. Her German champions bring the mango version, the gentlest in the range, to Berlin.

Story angles

  • A German importer championing Marie Sharp's, the Belize brand that made her a legend after 20 years in Belize.
  • A heritage-brand story: carrot-and-habanero as the original flavour-first hot sauce.
  • Mango Pepper at 2/10, gentle enough for watermelon salad or breakfast cereal.

Story
Created by the legendary Marie Sharp's in Belize, brought to Europe by an Ammersee-based German eco hippie named Jürgen Rahm, who spent 20 years in the tiny Caribbean country of origin. The brand is still under the leadership of the 86-year-old founder and fighter for women's rights and opportunities in Belize.
Pairings
  • Watermelon feta salad with a few mint leaves. Sprinkle the Mango Pepper over the watermelon and be surprised what happens.
  • Cottage or cream cheese, Mango Pepper, done
  • A dash or two in your breakfast cereal
Fun fact
On Marie Sharp's farm in Belize the mangoes can fully ripen because the processing takes place a 15-minute tractor ride from the facility.
